PhD in Computational Biology


The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Faculty of Science at the University of Southern Denmark invites candidates to apply for a three-year funded PhD position in the computational biology group, available from 1 December 2013.

The recently established group will, amongst other topics, develop computational methods for efficient analysis and evaluation of large-scale biological data sets. The research involves computational models for combining multiple OMICS data sets with different kinds of biological networks. By collaborating with researchers at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, we seek to understand the metabolic processes that underly metabolic disease and cell differentiation.

The successful candidate will have:
• A good master's level degree in bioinformatics
• Familiarity with evaluating and integrating bioinformatics tools
• Hands-on expertise in epigenetics, genomics, and proteomics data analysis
• Very good programming skills, incl. bioinformatics pipeline design and database setup

The successful applicant will be based at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Faculty of Science and will work closely with colleagues in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Application, salary etc.
Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement of 16 November 2011 on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
